Job Summary:  Working on an “on-call” basis and reporting to the Program Coordinator, the Residential Child and Youth Worker works in the Reach Respite Home, providing care for complex and challenging children and youth. The Residential Child and Youth Worker participates as a member of the care team, facilitating activities and outings for children and youths.   Duties:

• Participates in the assessment, goal setting and progress evaluation of children/youth
• Teaches children / youth to relate in a socially appropriate manner through the use of daily routines and activities
• Monitors clients in a residential setting and ensures their safety and well-being
• Provides behaviour management counselling to clients on a one-to-one and/or group basis by performing duties such as providing feedback on clients’ behaviour, teaching coping techniques and adaptive behaviour and providing guidance and support
• Provides emotional support and crisis intervention to clients which may include non-violent physical interventions
• Ensures that clients’ physical needs are met by performing duties such as assisting with basic personal hygiene, preparing meals, and administering medication as required in accordance with established guidelines, procedures and instructions
• Carries out household duties such as meal preparation and household cleaning
• Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy
• Accompanies clients to appointments and community outings
• Performs other duties as required

  Requirements

• Diploma in a related human / social service field
• Two years’ experience, or an equivalent of relevant education and experience
• Ability to successfully complete Ministry required HUB Background checks
• Clean Class 5 Drivers Abstract

• Provide a fun and social experience for the children/youth in the group
• Ensure the children/youth are safe and engaged during the session
• Support children/youth throughout the session as needed, providing skill building in areas such as interpersonal skills, anger management or self-regulation techniques
• Provide families with feedback and completing a daily log for each child
• Accompanies children/youth to appointments and/or community outings
• Conduct group activities while staying within budget requirements
• Report any incidents or relevant information to coordinator
• Participate in team meetings
• Performs other duties as required

  Requirements

• Previous experience working with neurodivergent children/youth
• Diploma in a related human / social service field
• One year’s experience, or an equivalent of relevant education and experience
• Current First Aid Certificate
