Parent Peer Support Group

December 3 @ 1:15 pm - 2:15 pm

Are you a parent/caregiver of a child with extra support needs? This can be challenging and feel isolating. There is strong research that parent-peer support can help. Please join our trained facilitator Pippin Fazeli in a safe and inclusive place to connect with other parents/caregivers, share some highs and lows and have some fun. This is an in person group at REACH main office in Ladner – please contact [email protected] to register. There is no cost to participants.

“After attending the support group, participants indicated that they feel more emotionally stable at peace when they are able to share their stories with others who have shared experiences.” Rachel Zeutenhorst (2017). Parent Support Groups and Well-Being: Investigating the Benefits of Parent Support Groups for Families of Children with Special Needs, Master of Education Program Theses. 114. https://digitalcollections.dordt.edu/med_theses/114

“Preliminary findings suggest that the Parent Support Groups effectively reduced stress and anxiety among parents of children with ASD and ADHD.” Sharma, Govindan, Komm (2022). Effectiveness of Parent-to-Parent Support Group in Reduction of Anxiety and Stress Among Parents of Children With Autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Indian J Psychol Med, 44(6):575–579. doi: 10.1177/02537176211072984
