The Importance of Early Learning

What is Early Learning? At REACH Delta Early Learning Centre, it is evident every day.  It can be seen when children discover the perfect rock, play restaurant or balance on logs at the beach. Early learning encompasses the whole child, including communication, problem solving, discovery, creativity and self expression. Children experiment with and investigate the world around them at our Ladner Child Care,  while learning from relationships and community experiences.

Providing spaces where children can be themselves, explore freely, and build relationships with materials is essential to early learning. At REACH Delta Early Learning Centre, children play- and play is their work. Play is integral to learning. Young children’s brains are still developing and hands-on experiences, exploration and discovery build the foundational skills they will carry forward throughout their life.

Learning also develops through relationships at our Full-Day Delta Daycare. Connections with peers, teachers, family and the community build trust, communication, respect and confidence.

Small steps in learning, lead to enhanced skills as children grow. For example – preprinting or writing skills start by developing the fine motor skills in their hands. Activities such as playdough, beading, sensory play and building with blocks, strengthen these fine motor muscles, eventually helping children grasp a pencil and experiment with drawing and printing.

Early learning is holistic, promotes healthy development, school readiness and lifelong learning success. Social, emotional, physical, intellectual and creative development are equally important and interconnected. At REACH Ladner Daycare, we believe that every child is unique with strengths and needs. Every child is a gift and every child brings wonder, curiosity and individuality to their learning experiences.
